Xilingol League, meaning River on the Prairie in Mongolian language, lies right in the north of China and the center of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with Xilinhaote as its major city. Mongolia, Zhangjiakou and Chengde of Hebei Province and Wulanchabu lie to the north, south, and west, and Chifeng, Xing’an and Tongliao to its east. As the intersection of Northeast, North and Northwest China, it serves as a hub between Europe and Asia as well as in Inner Mongolia. It is the important national base of livestock products in the frontline of China’s grand development of western provinces and owns the pastoral area that is closest to Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan.
Xilingol League boasts time-honored history, splendid culture, rich folk customs and abundant resources. It covers a total area of 203,000 square kilometers, equivalent to the combined area of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, including 180,000 square kilometers of usable prairie, which accounts for more than one fourth of Inner Mongolia. It abounds in natural resources, having discovered more than 80 kinds of mines and has verified reserve of over 30 mines. The coal mines are extremely abundant, with 144.8 billion tonnes of verified reserve or 260 million tonnes of verified and estimated reserve combined. Verified oil reserve reaches 320 million tonnes. Verified germanium reserve accounts for 70% of China’s total explorable germanium and world’s 35% total reserve. There are also considerable amount of iron, lead, zinc and copper mines. Xilinguole is to explore wind energy of 50 million kw in addition to plenty of solar energy. It boasts distinctive culture in that it has preserved almost intact its Mongolian culture and is known as the Hometown of Bokh and Long Tune. Its Site of Xanadu was listed into the World Cultural Heritage. China Horse Industry Association granted in 2010 the honor of Hometown of Horse in China to Xilingol League.
