Located in the eastern part of Fujian Province and the lower reaches of Minjiang River, Fuzhou, or the City of Banyans, is the capital and the largest city of Fujian. It is also the cultural, political, scientific research center and modern financial service center in the western bank of Cross-Straits Economic Zone, one of the first batch of 14 coastal cities opening up to the outside world, one of the top 50 cities in comprehensive strength, a national civilized city, one of the most livable cities, one of the top 100 best commercial cities in China by Forbes.

Fuzhou is one of modern China's five treaty ports open to foreign countries in which Mawei is the cradle of China's modern navy. The Pingtan comprehensive pilot zone features the nearest island county of China Mainland to Taiwan. Fuzhou has jurisdiction over 5 districts, 2 county-level cities and 5 counties with 7.27 million residents (as of 2012) who are principally composed by Minhai group of Han Chinese speaking Mindong dialect.

Fuzhou is one of China’s highly market-oriented and open cities to foreign countries, which is positioned to lead the comprehensive development of Fujian and the western bank of Cross-Straits Economic Zone. Since the reform and opening up, Fuzhou’s economic development and social undertakings have made considerable progress. From 1978 to 2008, its average annual GDP grew by 14.92%, having fostered an industrial system consisting of electronic information, machinery manufacturing, textile and chemical fiber, motor vehicles and parts, plastic products, optoelectronics and cultural creative industry.

Fuzhou is an excellent tourism city in China with numerous famous mountains, temples, gardens and residences featuring unique coastal landscape and picturesque garden. It boasts many national scenic areas, such as Pingtan, Haitan, Mount Gu, Qingyunshan and Shibachong Creek. Notably, Mount Gu is a must-see. "You have not been to Fuzhou if you do not visit its Mount Gu”, as the saying goes. There are more than 150 famous historical sites in Fuzhou, including many national key cultural relics, such as the Tomb of Lin Tse-hsu, Hualin Temple, Black Pagoda, Mawei Shipping Sites, Fuqing Maitreya Rock, Tanshishan cultural relics and Luoyuan Grand Commandant Chan Palace. In addition, the Cliff inscriptions, hailed as "Fuzhou Steles", Hualin Temple, the oldest surviving wooden building in south China, Stele of Virtue to King Langya, one of the world's four famous steles, Cliff Inscriptions, known as treasure of calligraphy, Stele of Divine to record maritime affairs of Zheng He in Ming Dynasty, and Tree Trunk Stele in Xuefeng Temple, the miracle in the history of jade studies in ancient China, all these are of great historical and cultural value.

Fuzhou boasts time-honored history, rich cultural heritage, abundant historical sites, sound ecological environment, advantageous geographic conditions, which will further  the city influence of Fuzhou.
