Hui is Huizhou, its government office is Shexian, in ancient times, people had called it Shexian, Xinan county, including Shexian, Jixi, Yixian, Qimen, Xiuning, Wuyuan six counties.

Huizhou culture refers to the sum of all the material and spiritual civilizations within one prefectural office and six counties in ancient Huizhou, and is not equivalent to Anhui culture (Anhui culture consists of four cultural circles: Huizhou culture, Huai river culture, Wan river culture, and Luzhou culture). Huizhou culture, involving Huizhou economy, society, education, academics, literature, art, crafts, architecture, medicine and other disciplines, is the aggregation of material and spiritual wealth created by Huizhou people, in the course of history.

Huizhou, the ancient name of Shenzhou, also known as Xin'an, is the earliest prototype of Zhejiang Province, part of the two Zhejiang Province in the late Tang Dynasty, in the third year of Song Huizongs reign (1121), Shezhou renamed Huizhou, the government office was set in Shenxian, the area included most of the city of Huangshan in Anhui Province, Xuancheng City, Jixi County, and Jiangxi Province, Wuyuan County, the "hui" character in "Anhui" that set in Qing Dynasty was also derived from it. Huizhou culture is a regional culture with strong local characteristics, its content is broad and profound, with such characteristics as holistic and series, etc. It profoundly reveals the secrets of oriental society and culture, contains the basic content of folk economy, society, life and culture in the late feudal society of China, and is regarded as a typical specimen of the late feudal society of China. Academics have been studying its culture for at least half a century, and it has been hailed as one of the three Chinese local schools that have gone global, alongside Dunhuang and Tibetan studies.

The main contents of Huizhou culture include: Huizhou land system, Huizhou merchants, Huizhou clans, Huizhou historical celebrities, Huizhou education, Huizhou science and technology, Xin'an science and technology, Xin'an medicine, Huizhou park science, Huizhou opera, Xin'an painting schools, Huizhou seal carving, Huizhou woodblock printing, Huizhou crafts, Huizhou engraving, Huizhou literature, Huizhou documents, Huizhou architecture, Huizhou villages, Huizhou folklore, Huizhou dialects, Huizhou cuisine, Huizhou religion, Huizhou geography, Huizhou animal and plant resources, etc.

Huizhou culture is very rich in connotations. The Huizhou people created many schools of thought in the cultural field, which involved almost every area of culture at that time, and all greatly influenced the whole country with their own characteristics. In the sixth year of the Kangxi period (1667 A.D.), the province of Jiangnan was officially divided into two provinces, Anhui and Jiangsu. The name Anhui was taken from the fact that there was Anqing in the north of the river and Huizhou in the south of the river.

Historically, there have been numerous schools of thought, the contents of which encompass almost all areas of culture. Huizhou emphasized education and cultivated many talented people. From the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, more than 260 schools were built in Huizhou; there were 462 schools in the early Ming Dynasty, and 562 in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, and there were even more private schools, "Whether it was remote mountainous areas or deep canyons, as long as there were inhabitants, there would be schools, teachers, and books." There are also a lot of people who have passed the imperial examinations, only the Ming and Qing dynasties Huizhou people have 996 people who have passed the village examination, 618 people who have passed Jinshi examination, the number of scholars only in the Qing Dynasty was 18, Huizhou had fostered a large number of outstanding people such as Zhu Xi, Cheng Dawei, Wang Daokun, Zhu Sheng, Jiang Yong, Dai Zhen, Yu Zheng Xie, Wang Maoyin, Hu Shi, Tao Xingzhi, Huang Binhong and other outstanding people. Huizhou merchants, who have had a profound influence on later generations, have also been a topic of study for a long time. The author believes that there are four academic factors contributing to the far-reaching influence of Huizhou culture.

Huizhou culture is the sum of the material and spiritual wealth created by the historical Huizhou people in their long-term social practice, which has a deep heritage and outstanding creation at the level of artifact culture, institutional culture and spiritual culture. It is a beautiful flower in the hundred gardens of the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation.
